No, really…we physically moved the server (as well as ourselves) to a new house! The server was only down for like 1.5 days while the PC was off, but it’s now up, properly port-forwarded, and with updated DNS pointers since we were finally able to switch internet providers.
For the last 19 years, we’ve been stuck using rather ancient copper coax based Comcast/Xfinity. The developer of our little town granted them a 12-year monopoly in our and four other neighborhoods. Although that monopoly expired 7 years ago, no other providers stepped up to offer an alternative, so we’ve been stuck with them for 19 years. With this move we were finally able to get on fiber optic internet with them same DL/UL speeds (unlock coax based Comcast which has pitiful upload speeds). The significant increase in UL speeds should greatly improve the performance of our MooshroomJockey servers. We’re going to wait and see, but we should be able to increase the number of concurrent players. So this move was not only a good thing for us in the real world, but an excellent thing for our self-hosted Minecraft servers.
